Kind-hearted businesses give boost to Mahdlo Youth Zone

A BOOST of £750 has been given to Mahdlo Youth Zone by the kind-hearted N Brown Group’s Shaw distribution factory.

Mike Isaac, N Brown Group’s Senior Team Leader; Sarah Crossley, People Lead; Sharon Bromley, Management Support; Lucy Lees, Assistant CEO at Mahdlo; and John Wilson, Head of Operations

The Youth Zone, on Egerton Street in Oldham, was chosen as the beneficiary of the company’s 2017 Golf Day.

20 teams took to Brookdale Golf Course in Failsworth for the day of golf and then dinner with guest speaker, footballer Dean Windass.

Through on-course competitions, a raffle and auction, £750 was raised for Mahdlo, which provides support, activities and opportunities for young people aged 8-19 from across the borough.

Staff at N Brown’s distribution centre, whose online fashion brands include JD Williams, Simply Be and Jacamo, had already raised over £150 for Mahdlo earlier in the year.

They had held a sponsored ‘Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow’ event where Operations Manager Nick Walker was sponsored to have his hair cut off.

John Wilson, Head of Operations Manager, said: “Our golf day is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues, local businesses and anyone else who loves golf to come along and have a great day.

“It also gives us an ideal opportunity to raise money for local charities, and this year we were able to support Mahdlo and the work it does with young people.”

Claire Crossfield, Mahdlo’s Development Manager, said: “Mahdlo aims to provide opportunities to support young people to be the best they can be.

“To keep Mahdlo open and accessible for all we rely on the support of the local business community.

“We are thrilled that N Brown Group are continuing to support our work, and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part in the golf day.”

Meanwhile, quizzers put their knowledge to the test at a charity event organised by Handelsbanken Oldham to raise £1,500 for Mahdlo.

20 teams entered a battle of the brains in aid of the youth centre.

Gareth Nixon, Head of Business Development at Mahdlo, said: “At Mahdlo we strive to provide excellent opportunities for our young members. We were thrilled that Handelsbanken wanted to support us in this way.

“It was a fantastic night and raised money that will directly impact the young people of the town.”

Scott Parkinson, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken said: “It was an easy decision to support Mahdlo at this year’s Annual Professionals Charity Quiz as the work they do is inspirational.

“The quiz itself was keenly fought, with a team from Seftons Accountants just edging out two other teams on a tiebreak question.”
