Simla the best! Longevity is key to curry house success

RARELY has Royton’s night-time economy boomed as it does currently.

New town centre bars and restaurants ensure a top night out for numerous people across the borough.But alongside the recent arrivals is an ever popular constant – the Simla Inn.

In January 2020, the Middleton Road curry house celebrates 25 years in business.

Co-owners, Shamsul Huda and Abul Kashem, have been in charge since day one to ensure Simla’s continued success.

“We still have customers who have been coming to us since we first opened,” said proud Shamsul, one of 10 full and part-time staff at the two-floor, 150 covers restaurant.

“We remember when they used to come with their children who are now grown up and coming themselves.”

One of the key reasons for repeat business are the culinary skills of Abul who was Oldham’s first ever curry chef of the year, winning the award in two successive years.

His chicken akbari dish has achieved legendary status! “Abul is a very creative chef and has been cooking since childhood,” added Shamsul.

“He still does his signature dishes but is always looking to add new ones.

“Royton is probably the best choice for a night out in Oldham.

“It is also a nice, safe location for people to come with their families.

“We know there are plenty of places to go and eat and drink now in Royton.

“But if people want a good curry experience at a reasonable price in nice surroundings then we believe the Simla Inn offers everything you will want.”

The Simla Inn, which received a five-star food hygiene rating from Oldham Council earlier this year, is open seven days a week: Sunday 4.30pm to 11.00pm; Monday to Thursday 5.30 to 11.00pm; Friday to Saturday 5.30 to 12.30am.

It is currently offering a five-course meal from the al a carte menu costing £11.95, Sunday to Thursday and £12.95, Friday and Saturday.
